Paul Swangard, Sports Marketing Veteran with Deep Roots in Track and Field Joins Leadership Team

Eugene, OR - September 23, 2015 - RunnerSpace, the leading digital media company in Track and Field and Running, announced an agreement today with Bowerman Curve Collective Inc. giving the Eugene-based consultancy a key advisory role in the development and execution of RunnerSpace’s strategic plan and helping to secure, manage and enhance key client relationships including the recently-announced six-year partnership with the Armory Track and Field Center in New York City. Paul Swangard, President of BCC, Inc. will work directly with RunnerSpace CEO Ross Krempley.

“Paul has been a trusted advisor to me for many years and I’m incredibly excited to formalize this critical role in our company,” said CEO Ross Krempley. “He shares our passion for the sport, but also brings a perspective and industry network that will help guide us in our next stages of growth. Paul is well respected in our sport and a proven thought-leader in sports marketing, I can’t wait to see where he can help take our company through this partnership.

As President and Founder of Bowerman Curve Collective Inc., Swangard has provided strategic consulting and research services to leading brands including EA Sports and Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. He is also one of the best-known “voices” in the sport of track and field having served as the primary announcer at Historic Hayward Field for more than 20 years and earned appointments on event presentation teams at dozens of IAAF, Diamond League, USA Track and Field, NCAA and post-collegiate events. In May, he received the 2015 Scott Davis Award for Excellence in Track and Field Announcing from the Track and Field Writers of America and in 2014 was inducted into the University of Oregon Track and Field Hall of Fame. In addition to in-stadium work in recent years, Swangard has returned to his broadcast roots providing commentary on live event coverage for NBC Sports Network and USATF.TV.

In June, Swangard stepped down after 14 years as the Managing Director of the Warsaw Sports Marketing Center at the University of Oregon. In leading one of the top sports business academic programs in the world he developed a strong reputation for developing talent, forging strong partnerships with industry both domestically and abroad and providing thoughtful perspective on industry trends through conference talks, executive education and media appearances.

“This is a perfect intersection of my professional passions,” noted Swangard. “There’s a role for me here to help grow an innovative sports media company and mentor the talent that will be required to execute the plan successfully. It also complements my ongoing in-stadium and broadcast work allowing me to grow deeper roots in a sport that I’ve been involved with since I was a kid growing up in Tracktown, U.S.A.”

A Eugene native, Swangard was a standout prep sprinter at South Eugene High School who went on to receive his B.A. in Broadcast Journalism in 1990 and his M.B.A. in 1999 both from the University of Oregon. Before his tenure at the Warsaw Center, he held marketing roles at Intel Corporation and was an award-winning sports anchor/reporter for KEZI-TV. As a freelancer, Swangard has served in play-by-play, commentating and production roles for a variety of national and regional sports networks including NBC, ESPN and Fox Sports.
