With over 28,000 photos, 8,000 videos, 4,500 news articles, 1,000 blogs, and 500 event pages uploaded in our first year, we thought we should highlight some of our best content. We thank all of you who have uploaded content this past year and can't imagine the task of looking through even bigger numbers of content next year to choose The Best of the Best! |
Events of the Year We thought about making more than 6 awards for the events but realized when we got to about 5 that NXN would have a good shot to win all of them. Nike Cross Nationals was a huge success this year, both on their end and on ours. At this writing there are 133,932 views just on the event's front page alone. To put that in perspective, the event happened on December 6th ... just 20 days ago. And you know it had to be big to beat out the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials, an event that only happens once every 4 years! Congrats to the entire NXN team, a job well done.
RunnerSpacers of the Year RunnerSpace wouldn't be what it is without its members. We want to thank each and every one of you for every piece of content you have uploaded or put on the site. This site is a testament to what can be done when the community comes together and helps propel the exposure of our great sport(s). The members below who received awards have done amazing things for the site from uploading amazing content to showing our own staff the capabilities of what you can do with profile designs. We look for more great things to come from you and look forward to meeting new RunnerSpacers every day.
Videos of the Year So many great videos, so little time! Over 8,000 videos in a year! That's just crazy. But we guess after another year 8,000 won't seem like much, huh? Be sure to check out the video of the year. It was a hands down, no contest winner and is probably the best video we've ever seen about the sport of track and field. (And yes we may be biased but we think anyone remotely in their right mind would agree). A side note to that video: It was produced on that day, day 10 of the Olympic Trials. It didn't take a week to produce a great video...it was done that night!
Blogs of the Year We initially thought that after looking through over 25,000 photos that there wouldn't be anything close to taking as long to decide on awards. We were proven wrong when we had to actually read (and sometimes skim over) 1,000+ blogs to find the year-end winners. There were some really good ones out there that we wish could have made the list. Thanks to all of you who have shared your opinions and experiences. We are looking forward to reading more blogs from all of you throughout the coming year.

Photos of the Year Wow! There were a ton of photos to look through to find the ones worthy for awards. There have been over 28,000 photos uploaded to our site and it was not easy to pick 4 in each category. The two big themes that stood out in the photos were high school cross country and the Olympic Trials, which combined for 11 of the awards (including runners up). But as you can see there were 3 photos that drew an awful lot of attention. Falling into the water pit always makes for a great picture but this series of 3 photos definitely takes the cake!

News Articles of the Year There was alot of reading and some tough decisions for the news awards. There were so many deserving articles that we wish we could have highlighted but we had to stick to 4. What we did find for sure was that when the title or image infer or show any sort of nudity there seem to be a much greater number of views. Hmmm... But at the end Lopez Lomong being selected to carry the U.S. flag outweighed the field.
Arcade Gamers of the Year The arcade was completely and utterly dominated by Fast RunnerZ (now Scherer) the entire year. He won the overall title every month and a total of $1450! It wasn't easy though, Shane, DGS, Bobisfuninsun, and several more looked like they would have a chance to knock him off but it never happened. How long can Fast RunnerZ keep up the streak? By the way, the helicopter game was played on average 45 times a day for the entire year! That's over 15,000 times!
Groups of the Year This year the Best of the Best of groups was dominated by the Nike Truck Tours. Ozzie, Chris, and Brian tore it up touring all over the country visiting countless high schools, running camps and events while uploaded tons and tons of content to the site. Their hard work paid off when the Nike Cross Nationals saw its best year to date, and the trio combined to take home 3 of the 8 group awards. But they weren't the only ones that impressed. The RunnerSpace Training site has been picking up speed since it started, Baby Boot Camp Eugene showed us a killer design, and Team XO was rockin' from the beginning.
