2009 RunnerSpace Photo Awards

Photos

We have been very fortunate here at RunnerSpace to have great relationships with many photographers across the country. They are a big reason for our success. With over 45,000 photos uploaded just this year it was tough to pick out just a few as the best of the best.

Here are the Top 9 Photos of 2009:

Photo of the Year: Maggie Vessey's OMG

Maggie Vessey's magical season of OMG's all started when she surprised a Hayward Field crowd with a huge win in the 800m at the Prefontaine Classic. Upon crossing the line you could see the moment when she realized what exactly had happened and she gave one of the most unforgettable reactions of the season. Almost just as surprising was Jenny Barringer's reaction in the same meet to seeing her sub-4:00 time on the video board.

Event pages are the building blocks for the entire RunnerSpace website. It is the central place to find all the videos, photos, news and information we have for a particular event. This year we increased our number of event coverages to over 800 events.

Here are the Top 9 Events of 2009:

NXN was by far our biggest and most popular event. It was so big that it crashed our servers during the live race feed. During 2009, NXN had more than 200,000 views on the home page alone and more than a million total. It has pushed the bar with its design and functionality and has become the biggest event in high school cross country.

Thousand Oaks High School has also showed just how powerful the groups system can be. We look forward to many more groups coming on board over the next year!

News

This year over 3,000 news articles were uploaded to the website. 2009 brought many ups and downs in the world of running. There was controversy and tradgedy. There were jaw droppers and eye poppers. We will continue to keep you up to date over the next year with the latest and greatest news stories.

Here are the Top 9 News Stories of 2009:

News Story of the Year: Trackshark Gets Shut Down

It was a sad day for track and field coverage this past March when TrackShark creator Tom Borish announced the site's owners, Wasserman Media Group, were shutting down the website. TrackShark was arguably the best college track and field website on the web and will be greatly missed.

Ouch. Looks like Keith is 2 for 2 on most hopeless. When is he ever going to get a life? Or at least some gaming talent?!

Chris Nickinson

No argument, Trackshark was the best site for college news.
